John Farmer Obtains Favorable Verdict in Auto Rear-End Accident Case

On November 14, 2018, John Farmer received a favorable jury verdict in an auto rear-end accident case tried in the Van Nuys Branch of the Los Angeles Superior Court.

Plaintiff contended that the accident caused an aggravation of pre-existing degenerative disc disease in her neck and mild Levoscoliosis in her low back.

At trial, her medical expert found her past medical expenses of approximately $70,000 were reasonable and medically necessary and posited the need for a future cervical discectomy and fusion, a left knee arthroscopy, a series of facet injections and physical therapy.  The plaintiff asked the jury to award $388,264. The defense argued that plaintiff sustained a mild cervical strain which should have resolved in approximately 3 months with conservative care, and suggested that the jury should award medical expenses of $4,663 per the defense orthopedist and $3,000 for general damages.

The jury agreed and awarded $7,663, which was well within the defense Offer to Compromise of $20,000.
